Lucy Beaman Hobbs Taylor

Hello Bloggers! Today I will tell you about a woman I consider very admirable in the area of dentistry, as she challenged everything of the time and became the first dontologist woman in history: Lucy Hobbs. I really admire this woman, since she was rejected in medical school for being a woman, but did not surrender, and entered the area of dentistry striving to be recognized despite the rejection of the men of the profession, becoming the first woman to get a degree as a dentist surgeon. I think Lucy Hobbs was and is an inspiration to many women over time to be able to accomplish what you want and fulfill their goals in life, independent of gender or age.  By 1900, almost one thousand women had followed Lucy Taylor into dentistry, an increase many attribute largely to her accomplishments.T he American Association of Women Dentists honored Taylor by establishing the Lucy Hobbs Taylor Award, which it now presents annually to AAWD members in recognition of professional excellen...

HOW CAN YOUR MAJOR MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE?

Imagen
Hello everyone! I hope you are all very well. Today I will talk about something that I have already commented to you in previous Blogs, and that is that I study dentistry at the University of Chile, I am already in my second year and I will tell you a little about what the title of this entry goes. Dentistry is a profession concerned with the prevention and treatment of oral diseases, including diseases of the teeth and supporting structures and diseases of the soft tissues of the mouth, so it is a profession of great importance in society. Common conditions such as cavities, which can be very uncomfortable and painful in a person's daily life, are treated by the dentistry, and in the future I hope to be able to contribute to society by treating people who suffer from pain due to some oral injury, or help them feel more comfortable with themselves by doing some restoration or treatment that affects the esthetics of their smile, acquiring the necessary knowledge during the years...

My favorite food

I really like Asian food, especially one of the most popular currently, Sushi. Sushi is a Japanese dish that offers specially prepared rice and usually some type of fish or seafood, often raw, but sometimes cooked, along with some other additives such as avocado, chives  and cream cheese, that are wrapped in rice and seaweed.  The seaweed, called nori, is collected with submerged bamboo nets. Sushi can have different covers, some are wrapped in salmon, tuna, cream cheese, sesame, ciboulette, They can even be fried in tempura or panko, which leaves it crunchy, you can have a lot of diversity when making your choice in Sushi. Wasabi and soy sauce are commonly used to flavor sushi rolls.  In addition, you can accompany it with various sauces, from the most common as soy sauce, to some more special as teriyaki, everything goes in your preferences. I like it because it is a different flavor to what is usually eaten in Chilean food, it has condiments only used in ori...

MY FAVOURITE PIECE OF TECHNOLOGY

Imagen
My favorite piece of technology is my iPad, I have it for two years and it has become an indispensable device in my daily life, I use it for basically everything and it is not an exaggerated size so it is very comfortable to carry it around. I use it daily to study, it is practically my notebook for every university subject, as I adore reading is very good as a digital book instead of a kindle, with a comfortable screen of an adequate average size, it also works perfect for drawing, playing and watching series, if i had to say it in some way, i like it very much because it is a middle point between a smartphone and a laptop, in which i can have a great variety of applications. As it is something I use every day in college, it became very necessary for me, once I was blocked and almost panicked for not being able to study for a test I had, so it is an indispensable object. Really if you are a college student, I completely  recommend getting one, it is very useful to take n...

WHY DID I CHOOSE MY MAJOR

Imagen
When I was little I liked to be a "doctor" a lot, I attended my animals and dolls with -according to me at my innocent age- medicinal herbs (lol), It clearly didn't work but in my mind I was an excellent doctor. I grew up with the idea of when I was older it would be great to study medicine like my aunt and save many people. Already when I started high school, in my first year, I thought that I could study architecture because of my manual skills since I also loved arts and sculpture, therefore I spent two years focusing only in what I needed to do to study architecture.  Only in my third year I remembered my dream of being a doctor as a young child, and I worked toward the new goal of studying medicine (although I had already ruined the last two years...) and managed, in my finals years, to be in the first place (score wise) of my generation. B ut with the PSU it was very difficult to get the necessary score for medicine,  the first year I did the test, in 2018, I d...
